Take care of the basics, the rest will take care of themselves

When it comes to health, the tendency is to look at the symptoms and try to 'get rid of them'. Symptoms are simply an indication that there is an imbalance, a 'dis'-ease going on.
Treating symptoms - especially with most conventional medicine, is like finding a patch of mold on a wall in your house and painting over it. It looks like it has gone, but the mold is still there and may re-appear somewhere else on the wall. More importantly, the slow leak from the water pipe that is the CAUSE of the mold in the first place is still there.

Minor symptoms like headaches, constipation, allergies, fatigue, not sleeping well, over weight etc. are like mold on the wall. We can take 'drugs' to take away the pain, reduce the allergies etc. but it is simply masking the underlying problem. By the way go here to read a full article on allergies and what to do about them.

I would suggest a different approach. When the body is in balance, it works well. Now it is often necessary to seek professional help to find exactly what may be out of balance, however, there are a few obvious places to start that will take care of 80% of all disease - in my humble opinion and experience!

The liver and kidneys are 2 of the most important organs when it comes to keeping the body in balance. They regulate digestion, immunity, hormone balance, water balance, mineral balance ..... the list is almost endless and a whole other article. If you haven't already, you might want to sign up for my ecourse - 10 Helpful Health Tips - it's a great place to start some really EASY, usually FREE ways of improving your health. All these tips support liver and kidney health too. Click on the link and you will find a form at the end of that page where you can sign up.

Couple of easy ways to strengthen liver and kidney health.
1. Add in a little red beet (beetroot in UK!) to your salads - only a little mind as it is quite powerful when it comes to cleansing and supporting the liver.
2. First thing in the morning drink a glass of water with lemon juice in it. That is one of the BEST ways of supporting both liver and kidney health.
I have another EXCELLENT herbal combination for the liver and kidneys and will add that link as soon as it is available. If you are in a hurry - e-mail me.

By the way. You may know that coffee is, unfortunately, harmful to the liver. Well, I have an answer for that too for all you die hard coffee drinkers! I found a Healthier coffee which actually HELPS the liver! Check it out here.

The other 2 ESSENTIAL elements to health and well being are both in my ecourse. Namely anti-oxidants and enzymes. Both are essential for treating and preventing disease and aging. The western diet typically does not have nearly enough of either, although both can be found in raw fruits and vegetables. A totally raw food diet, however, is hard to do and not always very practical. I think life should be FUN and sharing meals with friends and family might be a little hard on just raw foods!

There are easy alternatives. One that we use is a delicious, once a day juice with the full daily dose of anti-oxidants. Dr. Oz, who is frequently on the Oprah Show, supports it. Go here for more info on that. I will add an enzyme link shortly too.

Unfortunately it is really hard to know which products really are quality and contain the level of nutrition necessary. Even I can't tell, when I go into a healthfood store, which products have a high ORAC value (see my ecourse to learn what ORAC means!) or are effective enzymes. So all the products that I recommend are ones that we use, and consider them to be the best available.

OK, enough for today. I hope this has given you a slightly different way of viewing your health, as well as some practical, easy things you can do to to maintain and improve it.

Welcome to Natural Health for Boomers

Hello.
My name is Jenny McFeely and I just turned 50!
I have been involved in the natural health arena for around 25 years now.
I spent 4 years training in England in Herbal Medicine and Nutrition, was in practice in the UK for 10 years, then moved to Arizona, USA. Since then I have been teaching Natural Health in one way or another. Now I share my knowledge online.
What I have seen over the past 25 years is that the only way to true health is through natural means - what we eat, great nutrition, herbs, some supplements and lifestyle plays a huge part too.
My father and my Aunt - both in their 90's, have rarely used medications of any kind.
Now I do know that medications can sometimes be lifesaving (I've had some personal experience on that) but I have also seen that when they are used as the only means of treating disease that they tend to CAUSE more disease.
So I will be posting articles on how to PREVENT and treat diseases naturally.
Please bookmark this site, come back frequently and tell me what YOU think too.
Thanks for visiting.
